Do you support the Lower Saluda River Greenway?
Let the City know by attending the Parks and Recreation 5 year master plan public input meeting on Monday, May 21 at 6:00 pm at the Eau Claire Print Building. We want a big crowd there to tell the City this should be a parks priority!

Folks, with other allies, we are working to protect the trees and wildlife habitat along the Columbia Canal at Riverfront Park. The City plans to cut down trees 6 inches in diameter or less on the canal embankment. The City believes this tree clearing will help protect the stability of the canal, and it intends to eliminate all trees between the canal and the Broad River over time. We have tried very hard to convince the City that its plan will not serve its stated purpose, irretrievably eliminate valuable wildlife habitat protection and destroy the water-filtering function of the riparian buffer. But alas, they are unmoved at this time. Tree cutting will start today. We will have more to say about this, and will not give up on this valuable natural resource.

Let's face it folks, the Lower Saluda Greenway has been ignored by our elected leaders, not for lack of river users, but for lack of an organized political constituency among river users. Show Columbia City Council and Richland County Council the power of numbers. We're starting to get noticed by our elected leaders, but we need to keep those signatures coming. Sign our petition. We apologize in advance for any annoyance associated with repeating ourselves over the past 2 days (with more to come), just think of us as an earnest cheerleader!
