Meet your Congaree Riverkeeper, Bill Stangler.
Bill first moved to Columbia in 2005 from North Carolina to attend the University of South Carolina. In 2009 he graduated with honors and received his bachelors degree in geography. He is currently working to complete his Masters degree in the same field. His studies focused on biogeography, landscape ecology and river science and he has participated in research projects including monitoring and enhancing Rocky Shoals Spider Lily populations in Columbia, fish community sampling in the Broad River basin, investigating the effects of climate change at Congaree National Park, and studying historic river flows across the southeast US. Bill also worked for several years as a local river guide and in his spare time he is an avid paddler, hiker, and general outdoor enthusiast.
